UK NATIONAL SONG COMPETITION WIN When singer/songwriter and frontman with Perth's hardest gigging rock band The Windows entered a few of his songs in a UK music magazine 'unsigned band' competition, it was done on a whim and a bit of fun rather than with any serious hope. "I always pick up the PLAY MUSIC MAGAZINE whenever I pop into Bandwagon Music, and I always see these competitions for this and that. But knowing that this magazine is distributed all over the UK, there are hundreds and thousands of young bands out there all fighting to have their own material heard, and to be quite honest, I haven't really had the time to promote my work all that much, except for gigs. But, one night I decided to enter some songs for some reason, must have been nothing on TV that night." said Athole. Athole entered four songs that night from his debut album with The Windows 'hearts and sleeves'. "I sent them "One in a million", "She wears my skin", "Strange girl" and a more rockier number called "Cheap thrill", never thinking for one single moment you know?". Well, the response to Athole's songs was "Superb music", and the UK competition was won with the prize being Vintage V6 guitar. And of course, the fantastic UK wide national exposure of Athole's songwriting and The Windows rock band. "I could never ever buy this kind of UK coverage for my work and for the band, this is totally fantastic. Maybe this could lead to someone somewhere wanting to work with my songs, who knows?.....I am amazed and delighted for myself, and The Windows too." finished Athole.
